Verse of the Day

Romans 15:13

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Courage in the Waiting

David wrote Psalm 31 from a place of anguish. Enemies surrounded him, friends abandoned him, his strength was failing. Yet he closes this psalm not with despair but with an exhortation that echoes through the centuries: be strong and take courage, all you who wait for the LORD. Notice that David doesn't address those who have already received their deliverance. He speaks to those still waiting. This is the hardest place to find courage, when the prayer remains unanswered and the night continues. And what does David command? Two things that seem impossible in seasons of trial: strength and courage. These aren't summoned from within ourselves. We don't generate courage, we allow it to enter. How? By fixing our eyes on the character of the One for whom we wait. David had learned this through experience. Earlier in this same psalm he declared, "Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God." The courage to wait flows from knowing the faithfulness of God. He has redeemed. He will complete what He began. Perhaps you're in a season of waiting today, for healing, for provision, for restoration, for direction. The call remains the same: be strong. Take courage. Not because your circumstances warrant optimism, but because the LORD for whom you wait is faithful. He has never failed those who hope in Him. He will not begin with you.

God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.
