Hê-bơ-rơ 11:1

“Vả, đức-tin là sự biết chắc vững-vàng của những điều mình đương trông-mong, là bằng-cớ của những điều mình chẳng xem thấy.”

Faith: Seeing the Invisible

The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish believers facing pressure to abandon Christianity and return to Judaism. They were struggling with doubt, wondering if their faith in an invisible Messiah was worth the cost. Into this moment of crisis, the writer offers one of Scripture's most powerful definitions of faith.

Faith isn't wishful thinking or blind optimism. The word "assurance" here means a title deed, something that proves ownership. Faith is our receipt, our proof that what God has promised truly belongs to us. It's the "conviction" (or evidence) of realities we can't yet see with our physical eyes. Think about it this way, you can't see the wind, but you see the leaves move. You can't see electricity, but you flip a switch and the lights come on. Faith works the same way, we can't see God with our eyes, but we see His fingerprints everywhere. We see changed lives, answered prayers, and peace that makes no sense in hard times. This kind of faith isn't something you work up on your own, it's a gift from God that grows as you trust Him. Every time you choose to believe God's Word over your feelings, your faith gets stronger. Every time you step out in obedience when you can't see the outcome, you're building spiritual muscle.

Today, what are you hoping for that requires faith? Maybe you're praying for a prodigal child, trusting God through a health crisis, or believing He has a purpose for your pain. Faith says that even though you can't see the answer yet, God is already working. He's already written your name on the blessing. Your job isn't to figure out how God will do it. Your job is simply to trust that He will. God has never broken a promise. What He said, He will do. That's not blind faith. That's faith built on the rock-solid character of a God who cannot lie.

Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible. There is no glory for God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man's power ends.
