约翰福音 8:31-32
“耶稣对信他的 犹太 人说:「你们若常常遵守我的道,就真是我的门徒; 你们必晓得真理,真理必叫你们得以自由。」”
The Truth That Sets You Free
Jesus spoke these words in the temple courts in Jerusalem, right in the middle of a tense conversation with religious leaders who were questioning who He was. He wasn't speaking to strangers. He was speaking to people who had already believed in Him, and what He said next tells us something important: believing is just the beginning.
"If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
The word "abide" means to stay, to remain, to make your home in something. Jesus wasn't asking for a one-time decision, he was inviting His followers into a daily, ongoing relationship with His Word. Real discipleship isn't just knowing about Jesus, it's living in what He says, day after day.
Here's the beautiful promise tucked inside that call: when you stay in His Word, you come to know the truth, and that truth brings freedom. Not freedom to do whatever you want, but freedom from the things that once had a hold on you, things like guilt, fear, shame, and the lies the world tells you about who you are.
So many people are walking around carrying heavy loads they were never meant to carry. They feel trapped by their past, by their failures, by what others think of them, but Jesus says the truth changes all of that.
Here is the practical step for today: open your Bible. Not just to check a box, but to actually sit with what God is saying to you. Read slowly, ask Him to speak, let His words settle into your heart.
Freedom isn't found in having the right opinions or the right information, it's found in knowing Jesus, the One who is the truth, and walking closely with Him every single day.
