Small Faith, Big God

In Matthew 17, the disciples had just tried to cast out a demon and failed. When they came to Jesus privately and asked why they couldn't do it, He gave them a surprising answer. He didn't say they needed more training or a better strategy, He said the problem was their faith.

Now, here's what's easy to miss, Jesus didn't say they needed a huge, powerful faith, He said faith the size of a mustard seed would be enough to move a mountain. A mustard seed is tiny, one of the smallest seeds you can hold in your hand, so Jesus wasn't calling them to work up some great feeling of confidence, He was pointing them to something much simpler.

The real issue wasn't the size of their faith. It was where their faith was placed. A small faith with a big God is far more powerful than a big faith in the wrong thing. When we trust in our own strength, our own plans, or our own understanding, we will always come up short, but when even a small, trembling faith is directed toward Jesus, things begin to move.

Maybe you're facing something that feels like a mountain right now. A broken relationship, a health scare, a financial burden that seems impossible to climb over. Jesus isn't asking you to pretend it doesn't feel heavy, He's asking you to bring your small, honest faith to Him and trust that He is bigger than whatever you're facing.

You don't have to have it all figured out, you just have to take one step toward Him today. Pray a simple prayer, open your Bible, tell Him you trust Him even when you can't see the way forward.
That's faith, and in His hands, that's enough.
