腓立比书 4:13
“我靠着那加给我力量的,凡事都能做。”
Holding On Through Hard Times
James wrote his letter to Jewish Christians who had been scattered across the Roman world because of persecution. These were real people facing real hardship, far from home, trying to hold onto their faith when everything around them was difficult. So when James says, "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial," he is not speaking in theory. He is speaking to people who were living it every single day.
The word "steadfast" here means something like staying put under a heavy load. It is not just gritting your teeth and waiting for things to get better, it is actively trusting God even when the pressure does not let up. That kind of endurance is only possible when you believe that God sees you, that He is with you, and that He has not forgotten you.
We have here the beautiful promise at the heart of this verse: those who hold on will receive "the crown of life." In the ancient world, a crown was given to a winner, a champion, someone who finished the race. God is saying that your faithfulness in hard times is not wasted, it is seen, it is honored, and one day, when Jesus returns, every tear and every hard moment will give way to something far greater than anything we can imagine right now.
Maybe you are in the middle of a trial today. A health scare, a broken relationship, a job that fell through, a prayer that still has not been answered. Friend, do not give up, keep trusting, keep praying, keep showing up. God has not walked away from you, and the story is not over yet.
Hold on. The crown is coming.
You will never learn faith in comfortable surroundings. God gives us the promises in a quiet hour, God seals our covenants with great and gracious words, then He steps back and waits to see how much we believe Him. He puts us in the crisis, and sees whether we will be men of our word.— A.B. Simpson
