Isaiah 40:31
“But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
The Greatest Love
Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 13 to a church that had a lot going on, spiritual gifts, bold preaching, and passionate worship. But they were also divided, prideful, and unkind to one another, so Paul sat them down and said, in effect, "None of that other stuff matters if you don't have love."
He closes this beautiful chapter by pointing to three things that last: faith, hope, and love. Everything else in this world will fade away. Prophecies will end, knowledge will pass, but these three will remain because they are rooted in God Himself.
Faith is how we connect to God. We trust Him with our lives, our salvation, and our future. Hope is what keeps us going, knowing that Jesus is coming back and that this world is not the end of the story, but love, Paul says, is the greatest of the three.
Why is love the greatest? Because love is the very nature of God. John 4:8 tells us that "God is love", so when we love others, we are reflecting who God is. While faith and hope are about our relationship with God looking forward, love is about how we live that relationship out right now, with the people around us.
This is not just a warm feeling, it is a choice we make every single day. It means being patient with a difficult coworker, forgiving someone who hurt you and showing up for a friend who is struggling, even when it is inconvenient.
Today, ask yourself where love might be missing in your life. Is there a relationship that needs grace? A person who needs your kindness? Let God's love fill you up, and then let it spill over onto everyone around you.
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.— Amy Carmichael
