诗篇 31:24
“凡仰望耶和华的人, 你们都要壮胆,坚固你们的心!”
Strength That Isn't Your Own
Paul wrote these words from prison. He wasn't sitting in a comfortable chair, dreaming about big goals, he was chained, uncertain about his future, and completely dependent on God. That's the context behind one of the most quoted verses in the Bible.
It's easy to pull Philippians 4:13 out of its setting and turn it into a motivational slogan. You'll see it on posters, bumper stickers and gym shirts, but Paul wasn't talking about winning games or chasing success. He was talking about something much harder, and much deeper, he was talking about contentment.
In the verses just before this one, Paul says he has learned to be content whether he has plenty or whether he has very little. That word "learned" is important because contentment didn't come naturally to him, it was something God taught him through hard seasons, and the strength he's talking about is the strength to be okay, truly okay, no matter what life looks like.
That's the core truth here, Christ doesn't promise to make every hard thing easy, He promises to give you what you need to walk through it. There's a big difference between those two things, one removes the struggle, the other meets you in the middle of it.
So what does this mean for your day today? Maybe you're facing something that feels too heavy. A difficult relationship, a health problem, a season of loss, a job that's wearing you down. Paul's message is that you don't have to carry it alone. You don't have to manufacture strength from somewhere inside yourself, you can ask Christ for what you need, and He will give it.
Lean on Him today. Not on your own willpower, but on the One who is always strong when you are not.
I have learned to be content in whatever state I am. It took me a long time to learn that lesson, and I am still learning it.— Billy Graham
