Verse of the Day

Psalm 23:1-3

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.”

The Shepherd Who Restores You

Psalm 23 is one of the most loved passages in all of Scripture. David wrote it, and he knew exactly what he was talking about. Before he was a king, he was a shepherd boy who spent long days in the fields watching over his flock, guiding them to water, protecting them from danger. When David wrote "The Lord is my shepherd," he was drawing from real life experience, and the picture he paints is a beautiful one.

A good shepherd doesn't just point his sheep in the right direction and walk away. He leads them, he finds green pastures where they can rest and eat. He brings them to calm, quiet water where they can drink safely. He stays close.

The heart of these verses is this: God takes care of His own. Not in a distant, hands-off kind of way, but in a personal, present, and gentle way. "He restores my soul" is one of the most comforting phrases in the entire Bible, it means that when life wears you down, when you feel empty or lost or just plain tired, God doesn't leave you there. He brings you back. He fills you up again.

Notice also that He leads in "paths of righteousness for his name's sake." God's care for you is tied to His character. He guides you because He is good, not because you've earned it.

Today, maybe you're feeling worn out. Maybe life has pulled you in too many directions and your soul feels dry. Take a moment and rest in this truth: your Shepherd knows where you are. He sees what you're carrying, and He is leading you, even now, toward rest and restoration.

Let Him lead you today.

The Lord is my shepherd. What condescension is this, that the Infinite God stoops to be the Shepherd of His people.
