Born Again to Living Hope
Peter had followed Jesus, watched Him die on a cross, and then saw Him alive again three days later. That moment changed everything for Peter, and in this verse, he bursts out in praise because of it.
Pay attention on how Peter starts, he doesn't begin with a request or a complaint, he begins with worship: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!" Peter had learned something that took him years to understand. Everything good in his life came from God's mercy, not his own effort.
The phrase "born again" is key here. Just like a newborn baby doesn't choose to enter the world, we don't earn our way into God's family. God acts first. He reaches down in mercy and gives us new life. This is the heart of what Christians believe about salvation, it is all grace, we bring nothing to the table except our need.
What does this new birth give us? A "living hope." Not a wish, not a maybe, a real hope that is alive because Jesus is alive. The resurrection isn't just a historical fact to check off a list, it is the reason we can face tomorrow without fear.
Because Jesus walked out of that tomb, death does not get the final word over our lives.
Think about what you are carrying today. A hard diagnosis, a broken relationship, a job that fell through. Whatever it is, bring it to this truth: your hope is not built on your circumstances, it is built on a risen Savior.
Take a moment today to do what Peter did. Before you ask God for anything, praise Him for the mercy that gave you new life. Let gratitude come before your requests, and watch how it changes your heart.
The resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith. It is the proof that Jesus is who He said He was, and it is the guarantee of our own resurrection.— Billy Graham
