啟示錄 21:4
“神要擦去他們一切的眼淚;不再有死亡,也不再有悲哀、哭號、疼痛,因為以前的事都過去了。」”
Laid to Rest, But Not Forever
There is something quietly powerful about these two verses. After the noise of the trial, the cruelty of the cross, and the darkness that covered the land, we come to this still moment. A garden, a new tomb, and the body of Jesus laid to rest inside.
John tells us this tomb had never been used before and that detail matters. When Jesus rose three days later, there would be no confusion, no question about whose grave was empty. This was His tomb, and His alone. Even in the rush of the moment, with the Sabbath approaching and time running short, God was working out every detail with purpose.
The garden setting also carries meaning as the first garden, Eden, was where sin entered the world. Now, in another garden, the one who came to undo sin is laid to rest. What looks like an ending is actually the turning point of all human history.
For those who placed Jesus in that tomb, it must have felt like everything was over. The disciples were scattered and afraid, the women who watched were heartbroken. Hope seemed buried right along with Jesus.
Here is the truth that changes everything: the tomb was borrowed, Jesus only needed it for three days. No grave could hold the Son of God, and no amount of darkness, grief, or despair can hold those who belong to Him.
Maybe you are in a season that feels like a tomb. Maybe a dream that looks buried, a faith that feels cold and quiet, an illness that gives you no rest. Take heart, God is not finished. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive and working in your life right now.
Rest in that today. Sunday is coming.
