Proverbs 14:26
“He who fears the LORD is secure in confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge.”
A Safe Place for Your Family
Proverbs is a book full of practical wisdom for everyday life. It was written mostly by Solomon, the wisest king Israel ever had, and it was meant to teach God's people how to live well. This particular verse sits in the middle of a long collection of short, punchy sayings about how life works when we walk with God.
The phrase "fear of the Lord" might sound strange to modern ears. It doesn't mean being terrified of God like you'd be scared of a thunderstorm. It means having deep respect and reverence for Him, taking Him seriously, and living with the awareness that He is God and we are not. It means trusting that His ways are better than our own.
When we live that way, something beautiful happens. We find a strong confidence, a settled peace that doesn't shake when life gets hard. Now here's the part that should stop every parent in their tracks: our children find a refuge too.
Your faith is not just personal, it ripples outward. When your kids watch you pray, when they see you open your Bible, when they notice that you run to God instead of falling apart during hard times, you are building something for them. You are giving them a shelter they can return to, even long after they've left your home.
None of us are perfect parents. We mess up, we fall short, and we need grace every single day, but a life lived in genuine reverence for God creates a kind of spiritual atmosphere in a home that children feel and remember.
Today, ask God to help you live in a way that points your family toward Him. Your faith can be the foundation your children stand on for the rest of their lives.
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.— Billy Graham
