Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
His Love Endures Forever
This passage contains a joyful moment in Israel's history, as King David had just brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, and the people were celebrating the presence of God among them. In the middle of that celebration, David composed a song of praise. Verse 34 is the heart of that song, a simple but powerful call to give thanks because God is good and His love never ends.
The phrase "steadfast love" comes from the Hebrew word hesed, and it is one of the richest words in the entire Bible. It means a love that is loyal, faithful, and strong. It is not a love that comes and goes depending on how we behave, but a love that holds on, no matter what. David had seen this love through his own life, through battles and failures and seasons of deep pain, and still he could say with confidence, "His love endures forever".
That is the core truth here, God's goodness is not just a nice idea, it is something you can stake your life on. When circumstances are hard, when prayers feel unanswered, when the road ahead looks uncertain, the goodness of God has not changed. His love is not running out, it is not shrinking. It endures.
Practically, this verse is an invitation to start your day with gratitude. Not because everything is perfect, but because God is good even when things are not. Try writing down one thing each morning that reminds you of God's faithfulness. It could be something small, a meal, a friend, a moment of peace. Gratitude like this trains our hearts to see what is always true, that the Lord is good, and His love for you will never run out.
Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.— Charles Spurgeon
