歷代志下 7:14

“這稱為我名下的子民,若是自卑、禱告,尋求我的面,轉離他們的惡行,我必從天上垂聽,赦免他們的罪,醫治他們的地。”

A Good Father Who Gives

In Matthew 7, Jesus is in the middle of His famous Sermon on the Mount. He has been teaching the crowds what life in God's kingdom looks like, and here He turns to the topic of prayer. His argument is simple and beautiful: if imperfect, sinful people still know how to give good things to their kids, how much more does a perfect, loving God know how to give good things to His children who ask?

This is called a "lesser to greater" argument, and Jesus used it often. The point is not that God is like a vending machine waiting for the right prayer, the point is that God is a good Father, and good fathers delight in caring for their children. You don't have to beg or twist His arm, you don't have to earn His attention, you simply come to Him, and He listens.

Jesus follows up with what we call the Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. This is not just good advice for getting along with people, Jesus says this sums up the entire Law and the Prophets. In other words, love for God and love for others is the heartbeat of everything God has ever asked of His people.

Think about how these two ideas connect, when we truly believe that God is a generous, caring Father who hears our prayers, it changes how we see people around us. We stop being stingy with kindness, we stop keeping score. We start giving freely, because we know we are loved freely.

Today, bring your needs to God in prayer. Trust that He hears you and that He is good, then look for one person you can treat with the same kindness and care you hope to receive. That is the Christian life in a single verse.
