Made New in Christ

There is a moment in every believer's life that changes everything. It may not have felt dramatic, there may not have been thunder or lightning, but something real happened the day you put your faith in Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul puts it plainly in 2 Corinthians 5:17: if you are in Christ, you are a new creation.

Paul wrote this letter to a church in Corinth, a city full of people with messy pasts. Some of them had lived in ways they were ashamed of, some carried guilt they thought could never be washed away. Paul wanted them to understand something wonderful: the moment they came to Christ, God did not simply patch up the old life, He made something entirely new.

The phrase "in Christ" is one of the most important ideas in all of Paul's writing. It means more than believing facts about Jesus, it means being joined to Him, the way a branch is joined to a vine. When you are truly in Christ, His death counts as your death to sin, and His resurrection becomes your new life. The old you, the one living apart from God and under the weight of sin, has passed away, a new you has come.

This does not mean life becomes easy or that old habits vanish overnight, it means your identity has changed at the deepest level. You are no longer defined by your past mistakes or your worst moments, you are now defined by what God has done for you through Jesus.

Today, if you are carrying shame from your past, let this verse speak directly to your heart. God is not holding the old life over you, He has made you new. Walk in that truth, live out of who you really are in Christ, and let that change the way you treat yourself and the people around you.
