以賽亞書 53:5
“哪知他為我們的過犯受害, 為我們的罪孽壓傷。 因他受的刑罰,我們得平安; 因他受的鞭傷,我們得醫治。”
Drawing Near with Confidence
Most of us were taught, at some point, that we need to clean ourselves up before we come to God. Get the anger under control, stop the bad habit, pray more consistently, and then come. But that is not what Hebrews 4 says.
The writer of Hebrews was speaking to Jewish Christians who understood the old priestly system well. A high priest stood between the people and God. He was holy, set apart, and distant from the ordinary struggles of daily life. You did not walk up to him casually, you came with a sacrifice, with ritual, with caution. Then comes this stunning reversal. Jesus is our High Priest, but He is not distant. He has felt hunger and exhaustion, He has been lied about and abandoned by friends. He has faced temptation in ways that were real and intense, not theoretical, and He walked through all of it without giving in to sin. That means He knows exactly what it costs to stay faithful when everything inside you wants to quit.
Because of that, the invitation is wide open. It's not "clean yourself up and then come", it's just come. Come with the weakness, with the failure you are still embarrassed about. Come with the temptation you have been fighting for years. Come honestly.
The throne you are approaching is a throne of grace. You will find mercy there, not judgment. You will find help that fits your actual need, not a lecture about why you should not have needed it.
Oswald Chambers wrote, "Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work". Coming to God in honest need is not a step toward something better, it is itself the most important thing you can do today.
So come. Come as you are, right now. He is ready to help.
Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.— Oswald Chambers
