오늘의 말씀

디모데전서 6:6

“그러나 지족하는 마음이 있으면 경건이 큰 이익이 되느니라”

The Riches of Christ

Generosity is easy to talk about and hard to practice, but the church at Philippi actually did it.

Paul was in prison when he wrote these words. He had no income, no freedom of movement, and no safety net. Yet he opens this passage not with a complaint or a request, but with gratitude. The Philippians had sent a man named Epaphroditus on a long and dangerous journey just to deliver their gift to Paul. It was a real sacrifice, made out of real love.

Paul calls their giving "a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God". That language comes straight from the Old Testament. When Israel brought offerings to the Lord at the tabernacle, the smoke rising from the altar was described as a pleasing aroma to God. Paul is saying that when believers give generously to support God's work, something holy happens. God notices. God is pleased. Their gift wasn't just practical help for Paul, it was an act of worship.

Then comes the promise so many of us hold onto: "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus". Notice it says need, not want, and notice the source: not according to your circumstances or your bank balance, but according to God's own riches in Christ. That is an unlimited supply.

This promise was given to people who had given sacrificially. It is not a blank check for comfort, it is a covenant assurance that when you trust God enough to be generous, He will not let you go without.

Today, take a moment to ask: Is there someone God is calling me to help? Do I trust Him enough to act on it?
