Ecclesiastes 3:1
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven”
Young in Age, Faithful in Life
Age is not the same thing as wisdom, and youth is not the same thing as weakness. Paul knew this when he wrote to Timothy, a young pastor leading the church at Ephesus.
Timothy was probably in his late twenties or early thirties, which in the ancient world could invite real skepticism. Older members of the congregation may have questioned whether someone so young had the right to teach, lead, or correct. Paul's instruction cuts straight through that doubt. Don't let anyone write you off, he says, but instead show them who you are by how you actually live.
Notice that Paul doesn't tell Timothy to argue for his credentials or prove his worth in a debate. He points to five things: speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. These are not achievements on a résumé, they are the shape of a life lived close to Jesus. Anyone, at any age, can grow in these areas, and anyone watching can see them.
This is still true today. Whether you are seventeen or seventy, the people around you are watching how you speak when you are frustrated, how you treat others when no one is looking, and whether your faith holds up when things get hard. Your life is a kind of ongoing testimony.
If you are young in your faith or young in years, take Paul's words to heart. You do not have to wait for permission to live with integrity, start now, in the small moments. Speak with kindness, act with honesty, love people well.
If you are further along in life, look for the Timothys around you. Encourage them, don't dismiss them because of their age.
God has always used unexpected people to do His work.
