Verse of the Day

John 10:27-28

“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.”

Safe in the Shepherd's Hand

There is something deeply human about needing to know we belong to someone who will not let us go.

Jesus spoke these words in John 10 during a tense confrontation at the temple in Jerusalem. Religious leaders were pressing Him to declare plainly who He was. His answer was striking: instead of pointing to credentials or arguments, He pointed to His sheep. The relationship between a shepherd and his flock was something every person in that crowd understood. A good shepherd knew each animal by name. The sheep, in turn, recognized the shepherd's voice above all others.

Jesus says three things here that belong together. First, His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. This is not passive religion. It is a living, responsive relationship. Second, He gives them eternal life. Not a reward they earn, but a gift He gives. Third, no one can snatch them out of His hand. That word "snatch" carries real force. It pictures someone trying to rip something away by violence. Jesus says it cannot happen.

This is a promise worth sitting with on your hardest days. Your salvation does not rest on how tightly you hold on to God. It rests on how tightly He holds on to you. That is a very different thing.

Practically, this means you can confess your doubts without fear that they will cost you your standing before God. You can walk through seasons of grief or confusion and still be held. You can fail and come back to the Shepherd without wondering if the door is still open.

Do you hear His voice today? Not an audible sound, but that gentle pull of His Word toward truth, toward repentance, toward rest. That pull is itself a sign you belong to Him. Follow it.

It is not great faith, but true faith, that saves; and the salvation lies not in the faith, but in the Christ in whom faith trusts.
