Acts 2:31-32
“Foreseeing this, David spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did His body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, to which we are all witnesses.”
Witnesses to the Empty Tomb
Peter had a problem on the day of Pentecost. He was standing in Jerusalem, speaking to people who had watched Jesus die just fifty days earlier. Some of them may have been in the crowd that called for His crucifixion, and Peter's entire message rested on one claim: God raised Jesus from the dead.
That takes courage, but Peter didn't just offer his own word for it. He reached back into Israel's own Scripture, into the psalms of King David, and showed the crowd that the resurrection was not a surprise. David had written that God's Holy One would not be abandoned to the grave and would not see decay. Peter makes a sharp point: David himself died and was buried, and his tomb was right there in the city. David was not writing about himself, he was writing about someone else, someone coming after him, someone whose body death could not hold.
That someone was Jesus.
The core truth here is plain and bold. Jesus rose from the dead, and real people saw it. Peter says "we are all witnesses". He is not asking the crowd to accept a vague spiritual idea. He is presenting a fact that dozens of people could confirm with their own eyes. The resurrection is the foundation everything else rests on. Without it, as Paul would later write, faith is empty. With it, everything changes.
So what does this mean for a Saturday morning or a hard Thursday afternoon? It means the same Jesus who walked out of that tomb is alive right now. He is not a memory or a teacher from history, He is the living Savior who hears you when you pray, who walks with you through grief, and who holds your future in His hands.
You are not following a legend. You are following the risen Lord.
Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.— C.S. Lewis
