Verse of the Day

2 Corinthians 3:17-18

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Slowly Changed by What We See

Most of us know that spending time with someone changes us. You pick up their phrases, their habits, accents, even their way of looking at the world. Paul understood this, and in 2 Corinthians 3, he uses it to describe something remarkable about the Christian life.

Paul is writing to the church in Corinth, drawing a contrast between two covenants. Under the old covenant, Moses had to veil his face after meeting with God because the people couldn't bear the fading glory reflecting from him, but under the new covenant, something has changed. The Spirit of God has come, and with Him comes freedom, the freedom to stand before God with nothing hidden, nothing in the way.

The word "unveiled" is doing a lot of work in verse 18. Paul isn't just talking about Moses removing a cloth, he means we no longer approach God with shame, guilt, or distance. Through Christ, the barrier is gone. We come as we are, seen fully and loved fully, and we look directly at the glory of God.

Here is the quiet miracle: looking at Him changes us. Not all at once, not in a single dramatic moment, but steadily, from one degree of glory to the next. The Holy Spirit does this work inside us, we don't transform ourselves. We fix our eyes on Jesus, and He does the transforming.

This means spiritual growth is less about straining harder and more about staying close. Pray, read Scripture, gather with other believers, and trust the Spirit to do what only He can do.

If you feel like you are not changing fast enough, take heart. The work is real, even when it is slow.
God is not finished with you yet.
