Verse of the Day

2 Timothy 3:16-17

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.”

Shaped by Every Word

Most of us know we should read the Bible more, but Paul's words to Timothy push past the idea of Bible reading as a good habit and into something far more specific. Scripture isn't just good for the soul the way a walk outside is good for the body, it actually does something to you.

Paul wrote this letter to Timothy from a Roman prison, near the end of his life. He knew Timothy was facing pressure from false teachers and a culture that was drifting away from truth. His answer wasn't a strategy or a self-help plan, but a reminder about the Book Timothy had known since childhood.

"God-breathed" is the word that changes everything. Paul is saying the Bible didn't just come from human writers who had good ideas, God breathed it out. That means when you open Scripture, you are not just reading what Moses, David, or Paul thought. You are hearing what God said. That's a remarkable claim, and it shapes how we come to the text. We don't come to evaluate it, but we come to receive it.

Paul says it works in four ways: teaching us what is true, showing us where we've gone wrong, correcting our course, and training us to live right. Notice the progression. God's Word doesn't just inform the mind, it moves into the places where we're stuck or broken and starts doing repair work.

The goal, Paul says, is that you would be "complete" and "fully equipped", not perfect in the sense of never failing, but whole and ready. Like a tool that fits the job it was made for.

So today, don't just read the Bible to check a box. Come to it expecting God to teach you, correct you, and shape you into who He made you to be. That's what the Word is for.
