Verse of the Day

1 Corinthians 15:58

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Labor That Lasts Forever

Some days it feels like nothing you do matters. You serve quietly, give generously, pray faithfully, and the world just keeps spinning without noticing. That feeling is real, and Paul wrote directly to it.

First Corinthians 15 is a chapter about resurrection. Paul spends fifty-seven verses building the case that Jesus rose from the dead and that His resurrection guarantees ours. Then he lands on verse 58 with that word "therefore", because resurrection is real, your work is not wasted. The logic is simple and it changes everything.

The believers in Corinth lived in a loud, self-promoting city. Status and recognition were the currency of that culture. Serving Christ without fanfare must have felt pointless to some of them. Paul tells them to stand firm anyway, to keep going, to keep giving their best to God's work. Not because the results were always visible, but because the foundation beneath them was unshakeable. Notice what Paul does not promise. He does not say your labor will always be applauded, or that results will come quickly, or that people will thank you. He says your labor is "not in vain".
That is a resurrection promise. What you do in Christ echoes into eternity, even when you cannot see it.

This means the Sunday school teacher who prepares faithfully for a class of three kids is doing eternal work. The person who visits a lonely neighbor, the one who prays over a list of names no one else sees, the volunteer who shows up year after year without recognition, none of it is wasted.

Ask God today to renew your commitment to steady, faithful service. Not for praise, but because the One who rose from the grave sees every act of love done in His name, and He counts it.
