Verse of the Day

John 1:32

“Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and resting on Him.”

Seen, Confirmed, and Sent to Tell

John the Baptist had one job, and he knew it. He was not the main event, he was the witness.

In John 1:32-37, we watch him do that job with clarity and courage. When the Spirit came down from heaven like a dove and rested on Jesus, John saw it. He didn’t just see a moment, he saw real confirmation. God had told him that the one on whom the Spirit rested was the Son of God, and now it was happening right in front of him. So John spoke, pointed, and told his own disciples, "Look, the Lamb of God". And because he said it plainly and without hesitation, two of his disciples left him and followed Jesus.

That is a remarkable thing. John gave away his followers because he wasn’t building a platform, he was building a bridge to the One who actually saves.

The core truth here is this: the Holy Spirit resting on Jesus wasn’t just a beautiful moment, It was a public announcement. The Spirit confirmed what the Father declared at the Jordan, that this man is the Son of God. John saw it, believed it, and let it change how he lived and spoke. His whole purpose was to make Jesus known, not himself.

For us, that same Spirit now lives inside every believer. We don’t receive the Spirit as a private comfort only, we receive Him so we can witness, just as John did. We point people toward Jesus and the way we live as Christians demonstrate to people Who we serve. That's what we call the fruit of the Spirit.

John Wesley captured this posture well. His words about doing all the good we can, in every way we can, to every person we can, for as long as we can, describe a life that looks a lot like John the Baptist’s. Faithful, wide-reaching, and always pointing beyond ourselves.

Who in your life needs you to point them toward Jesus today?

Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
