Verse of the Day

John 3:16-17

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

Sent to Rescue, Not to Condemn

Most of us expect God to be disappointed in us. We read the news, we remember our own worst moments, and we assume the heavens must be frowning. John 3:16-17 says the opposite, and it says it in plain words.

Jesus speaks these words at night to Nicodemus, a respected religious teacher who came to Him in the dark with questions. Jesus has just told him that a person must be born again, then He explains why God sent Him at all. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son”. The first thing in the sentence is not our effort or our record, it is God’s love, and it shows up as a gift. It was all for love.

Notice that the world He loves, is not a cleaned-up world. It is the same world that ignores Him and goes its own way. Yet God gave His Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. The door is as wide as the word “everyone”.

Then verse 17 answers the fear many of us carry. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him”. Jesus did not come to catch you, He came to carry you. The cross is where that rescue cost Him everything.

If you feel stuck in something you cannot climb out of, a habit, a bad year, a choice you wish you could undo, and you may be lying awake with it today. Hear this: the Father already sent His Son toward you, not to punish you, but to lift you out. Believing in Him simply means trusting that He did what He came to do.

Here is one step for today: say John 3:16 out loud, put your own name in place of “the world”, and let it sink in.

Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to save me and not to condemn me. I trust You with the place where I feel stuck, meet me there today. Amen.
